Learn to Skate

The focus of the Learn to Skate program is to teach beginner hockey players the FUNdamentals of skating. Players will become comfortable on the ice, learn the basic hockey stance, knee bend, use of edges and how to hold a stick before moving to Learn to Play.

New players to the ice will begin with the use of a balancing device and start to understand the basics of standing on the ice and feeling the edges of the skates to move themselves forward.

As players progress, they will stand and balance without a device. Coaches will teach players basics, such as getting up from the ice, standing, bending, sitting and standing tall in fun activities  that feel like they are playing  games but teach skating fundamentals.

Skill development continues as players move about the ice more freely and quickly. Coaches will introduce fun skating drills such as ice soccer, tag, bubble pop, red light green light and obstacle courses to further challenge the skaters in a fun environment.
