So you play 2 games on MV against both our MV Squirt Wales teams on October 18th.

Here is a travel sheet to help you with travel questions. We have you taking the 8:15 boat over and leaving on the 2:30.

It will be an early morning for everyone so I wanted to let you know now.

Dear Hockey Parent,

On behalf of Martha’s Vineyard Youth Hockey – THANK YOU for making the trip to 

Martha’s Vineyard. We are certain you have many logistical questions about accessing 

the island of Martha’s Vineyard and the MV Arena. Listed below are highlights about 

transportation to the rink as well as helpful information for spectators who may be 

traveling to MVY to watch their favorite athlete. Thank you once again for visiting our 

island and we look forward to seeing you at the rink!

TRAVEL TO MARTHA’S VINEYARD

Travel to Martha’s Vineyard is via Steamship Authority (SSA) out of Woods Hole, MA.

PARKING FOR MARTHA’S VINEYARD TRAVELERS

Please be advised that there is NO PARKING AVAILABLE at the WOODS HOLE 

TERMINAL. The SSA offers off-site parking and free shuttle service directly to their 

terminal in Woods Hole. The SSA has a number of parking lots located in the general 

Falmouth area. The closest lot is:

Cost to park in any of the SSA lots prior to October 14th is $13 per day and any time 

after October 14th is $10 per day per car. Current/real-time parking lot information is 

readily available as you approach the parking terminals by:

• Calling Woods Hole Parking Information Line at (508) 457-PARK (7275) 

The SSA recommends that passengers arrive at least 35 minutes prior to scheduled 

departure time to allow time for parking in the off-site parking lots and shuttle service to 

TEAM and SPECTATOR TRAVEL

TEAMS: 

MVYH will arrange for all team travel. Teams will receive a travel voucher with boat 

times approximately two weeks prior to scheduled games. The voucher can then be 

presented to the ticket agent at the Woods Hole Terminal prior to boarding. 

MVYH will pay the cost of the ferry and ground transportation to/from the rink for 

the players and coaches only. This may be a bus or taxis depending upon the 

timing during the season.

SPECTATORS: 

With at least ten spectators traveling, the SSA offers a group rate of $14 RT FOR 

ADULTS AND $7.50 RT FOR CHILDREN AGES 5-12. All individuals in the group must 

travel together from the same point of origin to the same destination and back. One 

person in the group must be designated as the individual responsible for payment and 

picking up the group’s tickets upon arrival. A generic travel voucher will be sent to your 

team approximately two weeks prior to scheduled games to be presented at the ticket 

booth. An accurate headcount can be provided on the day of departure to the ticket 

agent for payment and boarding.

(The SSA does not provide any reduced fare for vehicle travel if any members of your 

group choose to make a car reservation for game day.)

Spectators for games can utilize extra seats on the bus after the team has boarded. 

The remainder of the spectators will need to take taxis to the arena. These are 15 

passenger vans so they can accommodate a number of people in one trip.

MVYH will require up to date email addresses for programs in order to forward 

the necessary travel vouchers.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Does it matter if I arrive or depart in Vineyard Haven or Oak Bluffs?

 If traveling with the team, it will not matter whether you arrive or 

depart to/from Vineyard Haven or Oak Bluffs. The MV Arena is slightly closer to 

the port of Vineyard Haven, however, if returning to Woods Hole, you can depart 

from either port depending on the boat schedule. (The Oak Bluffs Terminal is 

only open through October 13th.)

How far is the MV Arena from Vineyard Haven and Oak Bluffs?

 Vineyard Haven to MV Arena = 3 miles

 Oak Bluffs to MV Arena = 5 miles

How long is the boat ride from Woods Hole to Martha’s Vineyard?

 45 minutes

Does the MV Arena offer a Proshop and place to eat?

 The Proshop offers a modest selection of items and is open from 9AM to 5PM

There are coin operated vending machines for items such as soda, water, 

snacks. We suggest bringing food for your athlete as there are no restaurants or 

stores within walking distance of the rink.

There are a multitude of places to stay, play and dine on MVY. We encourage
